About Dryden Street School
“The Place Where Children Come First and Parents are Involved”
The The Dryden Street School and Pre-Kindergarten Annex sites (Variety Child Learning Center and Dryden at Wantagh facility) houses students in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten for the Westbury School District.
The “Mission” of the Dryden Street School is to make each student’s and their parents’ introduction to Westbury’s educational process productive, positive and enjoyable.
The Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs focus on developing strong language and critical thinking skills needed for the rigors of learning in the 21st century. We pride ourselves on stressing the use of highly rated, developmentally appropriate materials in a hands-on oriented learning environment. Every classroom has the use of technology and listening materials to enhance classroom learning. To support classroom, learning, auxiliary staff, which includes a school psychologist, school social worker, and a registered nurse, are available to provide individual support. To enrich the learning program, teachers provide physical education, a library experience and music math enrichment; speech and occupational therapists are assigned to serve the students.
The full day Pre-Kindergarten program focuses on language immersion through the content areas and is organized around monthly themes. Pre-Kindergarten students are engaged in cooperative learning activities such as painting, block building, dramatic play, and science and math centers that encourage “Exploration” as they learn about the world around them.
